Steven Hildebrand
September 19, 1953 - July 18, 2026

Steven Hildebrand, a devoted husband, father, brother, physician, and friend, passed away peacefully at home, July 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with glioblastoma. His life was grounded in faith and distinguished by service, compassion, and deep devotion to those he loved.

Steven was born on September 19, 1953, in Portland, Oregon, to Eugene and Betty Jean Hildebrand. He graduated from Wisconsin Academy in 1972 and earned a bachelor's degree in French, with a minor in biology, from Andrews University in 1976. Following his calling to medicine, Steven attended Loma Linda University School of Medicine, where he received his medical degree in 1980. Throughout his career, he touched countless lives through his compassionate care and unwavering dedication to his patients.

On July 11, 1982, Steven married the love of his life, Merle Campbell, in Redlands, California. Together, they shared 44 beautiful years of marriage, raised their beloved daughter, Merrie, and built a life filled with faith, love, laughter, adventure, and service to others. Steven's devotion to his family was evident in the countless cherished memories they created together.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Betty Jean Hildebrand, and his brother, Bruce Hildebrand. He is survived by his beloved wife, Merle; their daughter, Merrie; his sister, Sue, and her husband, Tom; his brother, Brent, and his wife, Carol; his sister-in-law, Colleen, and her husband, Larry Vercio; and his brother-in-law, Rick Campbell, and his wife, Lyris. He is also survived by cherished nieces and nephews and many dear friends who were like family to him.

A service celebrating Steven's remarkable life will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the Loma Linda University Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Alumni in Mission Service (AIMS) Fund through the Loma Linda University Alumni Association. Steven faithfully served as Chair of the AIMS Council and was deeply committed to supporting global mission projects and short-term mission service. A memorial gift to the AIMS Fund is a meaningful way to honor Steven's legacy and continue the mission work that was so important to him.

The words of Matthew 25:21 beautifully reflect Steven's life of faith and service:

"Well done, thou good and faithful servant ...

Steven Hildebrand's legacy of love, faith, compassion, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of the many lives he touched.
