Patricia Ann Carson Koorenny died peacefully at home surrounded by family and her
beloved cats, on July 14, 2024, just shy of her 90th birthday. She is preceded in death by her
husband, Floyd Koorenny, and her brother, Frank Carson.
Patricia was born and raised in Santa Ana, California. She graduated from San Pasqual
Academy in Escondido, California. She attended college before putting her education on
hold to support her husband Floyd, and then her four children, in their college dreams. As
she raised her family, she held several jobs at Loma Linda University Medical Center. She
returned to college in the 80's, graduating from Crafton Hills College in 1982 with an
Associate of Arts degree, and then from Loma Linda University in 1984 with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Medical Records. She worked at Redlands Community Hospital and
Loma Linda University, including several years as part of the team compiling results on the
landmark Adventist Health Study.
Her most loved role was Nana to seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and
numerous other children who were privileged to spend time with her during the second half
of her life. She helped raise more children than her own, with love, kindness, wisdom and
the right mix of rules and discipline. She gave unconditional love and was the biggest
supporter of all achievements, large and small. Her Nana superpower was the ability to
know each child, understand their strengths and joys, and encourage them to build on
those for a successful and happy life. She maintained lifelong connections with the
children in her Nana circle.
Together with Floyd, her husband of 67 years prior to his death, she made her life in
Redlands, as a resident and a member of the Redlands Seventh Day Adventist Church for
more than 50 years. Her strong faith sustained her in her health and medical challenges.
She credited her faith and the prayers of her church members for the miracle of healing she
received in 2017 that allowed her to live independently in her remaining years. Known for
her sweet tooth, she was a discerning consumer and loyal customer of the purveyors of
fine confections. She was a lifelong floral gardener. A favorite pastime was visiting
independent nurseries in search of unusual plants to add to her garden, even as the first
love of her garden remained her roses.
Patricia is mourned by her children: Kevin Koorenny, Karen Lawson (George), Kathryn
Koorenny (Bruce Nobles), and Mark Koorenny, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
sister, Carolee Sandretto, and many nieces and nephews. She sleeps in Jesus, awaiting the
resurrection of the saints and life everlasting with God and her family.
