Obituary

Nancy Marie Badanes Albertson, aged 67, passed away on September 18, 2017, at Pacific Pines
in Redlands, California. She lived bravely with Dementia with Lewy Bodies for the last nine
years of her life.
Nancy was born July 25, 1950, in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she resided with her family and later
with her husband, Rick, and sons, David and Andrew. Nancy is survived by Rick, her sons,
David'
s wife, Annie, and her grandchildren, Gabriel, Natalie, and Jordan; as well as her siblings,
Jeanne (and Rollie) Dick, Harry (and Anne) Badanes, Betsy (and Marco) Pangallo, and Alan
(and Elinor) Badanes.
Nancy was an extraordinary wife, mother, and grandmother and a loving and caring friend to
many. A gifted and passionate teacher, she dedicated much of her life to educating her two sons
and countless other children. Nancy is remembered by many young people for the years she
spent leading the Sunday School program at Mariemont Community Church. After her children
left for college, she went back to school to earn a graduate teaching certificate and taught English
as a Second Language for thirteen years to adults and children in Ohio and Colorado. She also
maintained her Spanish fluency to teach underprivileged immigrants and volunteered as a teacher
for men and women in prison. At the age of 60, she earned a Master'
s Degree in Literacy from
Colorado State University.
Nancy and Rick were happily married for 43 years. They shared a love of hiking, camping,
boating, and music, and in later years brought their grandchildren along with them. Having
attended high school in Cincinnati together, they reconnected and began dating at Indiana
University. They married shortly after college. Nancy'
s great love for people led to her fondness
for travel, particularly to Mexico, where she spent a semester studying at the University of
Mexico City, and later returned for church trips to help children in need. As a college student
Nancy renewed her faith in Jesus Christ, and throughout her whole life, even in the last stages of
illness, lived out a vibrant, active faith that never wavered and inspired many.
In late 2012, Nancy and Rick moved to the town of Wrightwood, California, in the San Gabriel
mountains. She volunteered at the public library as well as the children'
s ministry at Sunrise
Church. Nancy is remembered warmly by friends and neighbors all over Wrightwood for her
kind spirit and constant smile.
A service to remember Nancy and celebrate her life will be held at Rick and Nancy's home in
Wrightwood on Saturday, October 7, at 11:00 am and at Mariemont Community Church in
Cincinnati on Saturday, October 21, at 10:30 am.
As a tribute to Nancy and her devotion to the life-changing power of education, donations can be
made on her behalf to the Chanel Eichel Education Fund, which she and Rick established to
