Attended U.S, Naval Academy, Graduate School, Annapolis, MD
Served with the United States Navy during World War II. Ended the war in command of the USS Antrim AK 159.
Certified Public Accountant authorized in Illinois, Minnesota and Washington D.C. Staff member, Haskins & Sells national public accounting firm. 1946-1952 Division Controller, City Products Corporation.
1953-1960 Financial Vice President, Member Board Directors, John R. Thompson Co. (a New York Stock Exchange listed company).
1961-1972 Financial Vice President, Green Giant Co.
1972-1979 Vice President, Investor Relations, The Pillsbury Co.
1979-1982 Associate Professor, Finance, Mankato University, Mankato, MN 1982-1983.
Married Jeanne Hilbert in 1949. With their two children, they lived in Wheaton, IL, until 1973 when they moved to Minnetonka, MN.
Upon retirement in 1983, they moved to Green Valley, AZ, then to Plymouth Village in 2009. Jeanne preceded Leonard in death in 2013.
Leonard is survived by his children, Virginia and Donald (Lynn) Barzan. He was the proud grandfather of Andrea Carr, PhD, and Kathleen Smith, PhD, their husbands Benjamin Carr, and Jonathon Smith, great-grand-sons Isaac Leonard Smith and Lucas Barzan Smith, and was looking forward to meeting his first great-granddaughter this May. He also leaves his cherished friend and companion, Audrey Morrill of Plymouth Village. He will be greatly missed by them all.
