Obituary

Eric R. LaMoe 1963-2022

Eric R. LaMoe, loving son, brother, beloved uncle, and friend, passed away on June 5, 2022 at age 58 at his home in California.

Eric was born at Fitzsimons Army Hospital October 27, 1963 and grew up in Littleton, Colorado. He excelled in sports as a left-handed Little League catcher, a top scoring high school basketball star, skier, runner, and swimmer. Eric attended Colorado State University on an ROTC scholarship where he earned a degree in accounting. He was commissioned an Infantry Officer in the Army and attained the rank of Major. His Army service included tours in Korea, Ranger Instructor at the Mountain Ranger Camp in Dahlonega, GA, and Infantry Company Commander in the 101st Airborne Division. He was both a Ranger and Senior Parachutist.

Eric left the Army at mid-career to join the FBI as a Special Agent. In addition to serving as a field agent, he was also an instructor at the FBI Academy, and one of a number of special agents deployed in support of the global war on terror doing tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

Eric's family and friends remember him as someone who could always be counted on to lend a hand and support – especially in difficult situations. He was highly regarded and well-liked by his colleagues for his technical skills and dependability. They all valued having Eric on the team. They also liked his quirky, dry and self-deprecating sense of humor, adventurous spirit, and stories about his classic Toyota Landcruiser. He would often break the silence or keep the conversation going by saying, "Did I ever tell you about the time when….?"

Eric was full of life with a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed building his Landcruiser for adventure and overlanding. Eric was planning an epic fall trip to visit friends and family. His overland journey was to go north to Canada, across to the Great Lakes, down through Kansas City, west to the Eisenhower Presidential Library (to research the history of his Dad's Artillery Battalion in WWII), on to Colorado for his Columbine High School reunion and return to California.

Eric always selected special gifts at Christmas that never failed to surprise and delight. He loved his entire family. Eric was especially fond of, and doted on his nephew and niece; he attended and celebrated every one of their special life events and bragged about their accomplishments.

Eric served our Nation, something bigger than himself, and that defined his character. He took the tough assignments in the Army and the FBI. Eric was fiercely private about his personal life, but always positive. He lived life "full speed ahead." His friends knew they could trust him, count on his help and support, and they ALL loved him. His legacy is in the people he touched, mentored, supported, and loved.

Eric's passing leaves a big hole in our lives and our hearts. You cannot replace an Eric, so he will live on in our hearts and memory forever.

Eric was preceded in death by his father Omar T. LaMoe, Jr and is survived by his mother, former wife, two brothers, and his beloved niece and nephew.

A ceremony with Military Honors for Major Eric R. LaMoe will be conducted at 1:30 PM on October 27, 2022 at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado where his father rests.
