Obituary

Douglas M. Young

Douglas Young, 73, passed away on June 9, 2026, leaving behind a family, friends, and community who loved him deeply.

He was a husband, a father to three sons, a brother to his sisters, a grandfather, and a friend. The roles themselves are familiar; the way he filled them was entirely his own.

Humor was part of how he moved through the world. He had a competitive spirit and a way of opening conversations into places people didn’t expect. He could make people laugh, challenge them, and send them away with the furniture of the mind slightly rearranged.

Tennis was one of the great joys of his life. He was always on the court, talking about tennis, watching tennis, or sharing the game with others. He taught his sons and grandchildren to play, passing down not just a sport, but lessons in effort, competition, patience, and joy. He was loved by his tennis community and will be remembered as a familiar and cherished presence on the court.

Motorcycles were a lifelong love, a connection to earlier chapters of himself that never really left him. They carried something familiar for him — memory, motion, and the pleasure of returning to a part of life he had always loved.

To his grandchildren, he was “Rhino” — charging after them in play, filling the room with laughter, and giving them a name and memory they will carry forever.

Sammy was never far from him. Some loyalties do not need much language.

He is survived by his adoring wife, his three sons, his grandchildren, his sisters, and the many family members, friends, and community members who loved him.

No amount of words can truly do justice to his life. He will be remembered always — on the tennis court, on his motorcycle, in the laughter of his grandchildren, in the stories his family tells, and in the example he leaves behind.
