Obituary

Carl Roger Gianunzio
October 8, 1945 – October 22, 2025

Carl Roger Gianunzio passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the age of 80. He was born on October 8, 1945 to his parents Philip and Mary Gianunzio. He was the youngest of their four children, having two older brothers and a sister. During his childhood, Carl lived with his family in San Timoteo Canyon, Beaumont, and Yucaipa, before settling in Redlands, where he was a resident for 65 years.

Carl graduated from Yucaipa High School in 1963, where he lettered in varsity wrestling and played the trumpet in the school band. He went on to attend San Bernardino Valley College's electrician program and obtained his electrical contracting license. Carl was an excellent and knowledgeable electrician, and he operated his own electrical contracting business CG Electric for many years until he retired in 2014.

Carl was proud to serve in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1971. He was stationed out of Long Beach and during his service, he was deployed aboard the USS Carter Hall for a tour in the Pacific, which supported amphibious transport missions during the Vietnam War.

Carl and Christine were married in April 1983 and shared their lives together for 42 years. During this time, they enjoyed traveling together throughout the U.S.A. including many trips to Hawaii, and Alaska, as well Europe and beyond. He loved discovering the beauty and history of the countries they visited and always looked forward to the next journey.

By far, Carl's favorite pastime was golf, and he seized the opportunity to play several courses during their travels. His favorite courses were the Plantation and Bay Golf Courses in Kapalua on Maui, Pinehurst in North Carolina, Torrey Pines in La Jolla, and Pebble Beach on the Monterey Peninsula. Carl also enjoyed years of playing at Yucaipa Valley Golf Course every Friday with his family and friends.

Carl's other interests included staying informed of current events and reading science fiction. He was a friend to animals, loved his little Schipperke pups, enjoyed ocean cruising, the outdoors, being part of the construction of buildings, attending air shows, vintage car events, and NHRA races.

Carl's life included a walk of faith as a Christian. He gave his heart to the Lord in 2006. During the Covid 19 shutdown and beyond, Carl read the Bible in its entirety 3 times and prior to his passing had begun a 4th reading. He enjoyed engaging in conversations regarding his faith and the teachings of the Bible with his family and friends.

Carl can be remembered as an honest and fair man. He was responsible, accountable, a good listener, rather quiet, enjoyed a good laugh, was a hard worker, independent, and at times a mentor. He was a man of integrity who was content with who he was. Carl never put on airs to impress others or pretended to agree or disagree regarding any topic to suit others. He had compassion for others, always taking into consideration what a person may be going through. Those who knew and loved Carl, will forever hold him close in their hearts.
