William Robert Reedy

September 24, 1931 - December 29, 2021

William R. Reedy (Bill) passed away at home surrounded by family on December 29, 2021 in Moreno Valley, CA. He was born September 24, 1931 in Minor Hill, TN to Smith Melvin Reedy and Ann Reedy (Trapp), they moved to California when Bill was 9 years old. He had a brother Jerry Reedy and a sister Jackie Retzkie both deceased. Bill graduated high school in Exeter, CA 1951 and Riverside Community College in June 1982 , Riverside, CA. He married Ada Joyce Mangles on April 1, 1952. He joined the US Air Force in April of 1951 working a deal with the principal of the high school that if he finished basic training, tech school and returned to the high school, the principal would issue his diploma, which he did. He worked in the medical field in the US Air Force and rose to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He retired from the military in April 30, 1977. After that he worked at various local hospitals including the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans’ Hospital and Loma Linda University Medical Center. During his retirement years he worked as a school crossing guard for the City of Moreno Valley. Bill was a devout believer in Jesus Christ when he dedicated his life on November 15, 1952. On this day he distinguished himself by displaying extraordinary heroism at a forward airstrip in Korea. Hearing that a C-46 aircraft had crashed in the sea immediately after takeoff, he rushed to the beach near the area of the crash. He aided in the unloading of six survivors from and amphibious truck. He then boarded the amphibious truck to return to the sea to attempt to locate more survivors when the amphibious truck capsized off shore. He began swimming toward the lights on the shore. During that rough and long swim, he told God that if he could survive he would dedicate his life to his savior Jesus. From that day until he left his body, he lived his life serving God and loving his neighbor. Also on that day, he earned the Soldier's Medal for heroism in a non combat situation. Bill is survived by his sister, Gwen Cushman of Rosamond, CA, his two children, W. Robert (Bob) Reedy Jr (Irene), and Hannah S. Reedy (Jill). Bill has three grandchildren, Louie, Dena and Jacque and 7 great grandchildren who know him as “Grape”. Bill attended Calvary Chapel of Moreno Valley and Lighthouse Baptist Church in Moreno Valley. Please no flowers. In lieu of flowers a gift to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in our fathers name would be greatly appreciated.
