Donald Russell Greene

After valiantly fighting prostate/bone cancer for more than 11 years, Donald Russell Greene passed away September 18 at the VA Loma Linda. A graduate of El Segundo High School’s class of 1965, Don enlisted in the military and served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967 as a FMF Corpsman. As a medic, he saved many lives and was proud of his service. Wounded in action several times, he received three Purple Hearts, which he gave to his daughters to pass on to his grandchildren. After serving in Viet Nam, he traveled throughout Europe for two years before returning to the United States , where he finished his education, earning a degree in business. He worked in the medical field for more than 40 years as a sales representative, regional manager and director of training. The highlight of his career was helping to create and become a partner in Hummingbird Medical. In July of this year, he was honored at the Vietnam Museum in Westminster for his service to our country. An array of his Vietnam memorabilia is on display at the museum. Married for 45 years to his wife, Joan, he was the proud and loving father of Courtney Boros of Cranberry Twp., Pennsylvania and Ashley Richards of San Diego. The son of Russell Greene (deceased) and Almeta Anderson (deceased), he is survived by his wife, two daughters, son-in-law’s Robert Boros and Scott Richards, and grandchildren Brendon and Brody Gruber; Taylor Boros; Gwendolyn and Alexandra Richards. He’s also survived by brother’s David Goetz, Joe and John Greene, and step sister Bernice Petrack. Services will be held at 10 a.m., October 20, at Riverside National Cemetery.
