Tanner Sean Haugen

Tanner Sean Haugen was suddenly and unexpectedly granted his angel wings on May 23, 2014. Tanner had a lifelong debilitating illness, but was always a fighter and always came through, this time it was not to be. Tanner’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His gentle smile could melt the hearts of those around him and though he never spoke a word, his voice and thoughts could always be heard. Although Tanner’s illness made him appear frail, he possessed strength, perseverance, and an ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. Tanner’s courage led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. He could spend hours swinging in his swing and rolling his ball across his face. Tanner enjoyed music, sleeping late, and being read too. He loved school busses, big rigs, and trash trucks, and big sister Nevaeh could always make him smile. Tanner’s passing reminds others that his life and our lives are to be celebrated. Although we will miss him every day, especially his winning smile, he will forever remain in our hearts. Through his teachings about life, we were able to create wonderful memories and for Sara and Stephen it is a special privilege to be his parents. We are so thankful for Tanner’s sister Nevaeh and her sweet spirit and her love for her baby brother, she taught us selflessness and unconditional love. Tanner leaves behind many wonderful caregivers that provided love and support that enhanced his quality of life. Tanner’s love extends to his wonderful teacher Robin Troyer, and all she did for him. There is a special place in our hearts for the staff, doctors and nurses at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego; because of their continual dedication, love and support, Tanner was able to survive some of his toughest medical challenges. There are other special people, too numerous to mention, that provided Tanner with love and dignity in his life and also in his death, and from the bottom of our hearts we are grateful. Tanner is survived by his loving parents, Stephen and Sara Haugen of San Jacinto, Ca; big sister Nevaeh Haugen; paternal grandmother Elizabeth ; Poppa Lorenzo; maternal grandparents Sean and Alicia all from San Jacinto, Ca; Aunt Katie, Aunt Crystal, Aunt Amanda, Aunt Erin, Uncle P.J. , Uncle Jerred, as well as numerous cousins, friends and loved ones. Tanner was predeceased by his maternal grandfather Deputy Michael P. Haugen and great grandparents Geoff and Molly Mangham. There will be a memorial service celebrating Tanner’s life, May 31, 2014 at 10:00 am at the Redlands Church of Christ 1000 Roosevelt Road in Redlands, CA. A reception will follow the memorial from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm at TWH Sports Bar, 2860 W.
