Shannon Jay Shelton, a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, community, and love. He was a man who wore many hats with pride: a skilled tradesman, a steadfast family man, and a proud veteran whose life was marked by service and joy.
Shannon is survived by his four children and their spouses:
Kip Shelton and his wife Mandi
Kenneth Shelton and his wife Blessy
Dr. Kevin Shelton
Casey Shelton and his wife Valerie
He also leaves nine cherished grandchildren who brought him immeasurable pride and happiness.
Shannon was predeceased by two siblings, Paula Mewhrter and Kenneth Shelton, whose memories he carried with him always.
Family, community, and a strong work ethic defined Shannon's life. He served his country with honor in the U.S. Army, a source of great pride for him. His dedication extended into his career:
He worked as a scale operator for the County of San Bernardino. He operated as a private general contractor, bringing many projects to life with care and craftsmanship. He helped with his father's general store at Carpinteria State Beach, a place where he learned the value of hard work, warm greetings, and community.
Shannon's passions outside of work were clear and heartfelt. He loved camping and fishing, finding peace in the great outdoors. He had a keen eye for photography, capturing moments that told stories long after the memories faded. Music also played a significant role in his life; he had a love for country tunes and even played in a band overseas in Germany during his military service, a chapter he spoke of with pride and joy.
He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his unwavering loyalty to family, and the way he found joy in the simple pleasures of life—the crackle of a campfire, the quiet dawn by the water, and the melodies of a song that spoke to the heart.
A private service and interment will be held at the family's discretion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity close to Shannon's heart or a memorial fund that supports veterans and their families.
Shannon Jay Shelton's memory will remain with all who knew him: a steadfast friend, a loving father, and a bright light who touched lives through kindness, craftsmanship, and song.
