Obituary

Mary Anne McKinnon passed away Monday, December 7th, 2020, in Redlands, California, where she lived for over 40 years. On September 1st, 1935, Mary was born in Hudson, Massachusetts, to Monica and Albert Yuryan of Lithuania.

One of four children, she is survived by her brother Joseph Yuryan in Connecticut and preceded in death by her sisters Catherine Whitfield and Helen DiTommaso.

Mary received her high school diploma from St. Michael's Academy in 1952. Shortly after high school, Mary joined her sister Catherine and her family in several locations throughout the country and the United Kingdom, as her sister and brother-in-law William Whitfield were in the military. She helped oversee their children (her nieces and nephews), Diane, Lori, John, and Robert. During that time, she attended business school training and also worked at Sheppard Air Force Base.

In Denver, Colorado, in the late 1950s, she met the love of her life, Richard L. McKinnon. The two were married on December 24th, 1960, in Aurora, Colorado. Together, they have two adopted children; son Steven Richard McKinnon, born March 8th, 1969, and daughter Susan Lynn McKinnon, born September 9th, 1972. Susan (Susie) currently resides in San Francisco, CA, Steven in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

Mary worked as a Civil Service worker at Lowry Air Force Base from 1965-1969. Later, from 1974-77, she and her husband started and managed a nightclub, 'The Warehouse' in Springfield, Il., in partnership with her sister and brother-in-law, the Whitfields. Moving to Redlands, California in 1977, she and her husband Richard started their own general contracting business in cabinetry and design for the following 20 years in Redlands.

Mostly self-taught, Mary enjoyed painting, drawing, playing piano, and some guitar. She loved her family and husband very much. Mary's family profess she was an excellent cook, even if she disagreed! An extraordinary quality of Mary's anyone would attest to was her intense love of animals. She saved and nursed many a bird, rodent, cat, and dog - likely more! At one time in the 80s, the McKinnon family took care of 12 cats and 2 dogs.

Mary will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
