Douglas Waller

Douglas Waller, also known as Doug, died at the age of 63 years on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 in Fontana, Ca. He resided with his daughter and her family in Grand Terrace, Ca. Doug was born October 5, 1953 in Los Angeles and was later adopted by Julius and Helen Waller. Years later he was joined by his sister, Elaine. They both grew up on Piru Street in Gardena, California, and attended the neighborhood schools. Doug attended a college in Texas for 1 year on a swimming scholarship and excelled at the butterfly stroke. He returned to Los Angeles to begin his career with LA County. Doug was an LA County Lifeguard assigned to Hermosa Beach in 1973 for several seasons as well as several community pools. In April, 1980 while working at the YWCA as a lifeguard and swim instructor, Doug met Michelle Davis, also a lifeguard and swim instructor. They married on Valentine’s Day February 14, 1981 at his Uncle Isaiah's church. Later, they happily welcomed their only child, Syreeta, in February, 1982. In 1984 he began his career with the Los Angeles County Probation Department. He served as a probation officer at various juvenile camps and facilities, including Camp Glenn Rockey, Camp Gonzalez, and Riverside Juvenile detention center where he was continually recognized as a valuable employee. Doug began his home based business as Douglas Leather and Sporting Goods in 1995 selling apparel, police, fire, and security equipment beginning with the LA County Sheriff's Department. Doug was known for his personable style of forming relationships with his customers while delivering their items. The name was later changed to Public Safety Outfitters. He outfitted San Bernardino’s Public Safety High School program, Victor Valley College Public Safety Program, Rio Hondo Police Academy, and other surrounding areas schools and agencies. He is survived by Michelle Davis-Waller, wife, Elaine Waller-Rose, sister, Syreeta Afadonis, daughter, Mikkail Afadonis, son-in-law; grand children, Mikala, 8 years old, and Marcus, 6 years old. Gina Webster, sister-in-law, Bernard Davis, brother-in-law and their children. His hobbies were playing racquetball, swimming, shooting, playing chess and dominoes. In these activities, he has made many valuable friends whom he treasured until the end. He will be remembered as a friendly, generous, and humorous nature. He will be very missed by all.
