Named after both her grandmothers, Dora Arvella Rogers was born January 6th,1953 to Willie Rogers and Margaret Dell Rogers in Los Angeles, California. She was one of seven children, her being the oldest of her sisters, and the third oldest of her brothers. Dora, known as Arvella to her friends and family, married Henry Tony Loyd Jr. and had three children named Tony Tyre Monkell Lloyd, Jimek Loyd, and Kendren Naon Loyd. Arvella worked at Jerry L. Pettis Veterans Hospital and retired after years of service.
Arvella was a master at braiding hair and loved to bake, as she could make a mean sweet potato pie and butter icing cake for the holidays. So much so that when she would make 10-15 pies, we would hide pies so that we could take one home. Arvella also loved to entertain, dance and laugh with her closest friends: Liz, Willie B, Pauline, Louisa, Betty, and Marcia, and
they all would play bingo together.
Arvella never lost faith and throughout every obstacle she remained strong until the very end when her Heavenly Father called her home to be in his arms on July 10, 2020. She leaves behind: one devoted daughter, two loving sons, two wonderful grandchildren, two caring sisters, one dear brother, many nieces and nephews, and a large host of family and friends that will
cherish her memories forever.
Dora Arvella Rogers touched many hearts throughout her lifetime and will be truly missed.
