David Vernon Shewmaker, age 63, passed away at San Antonio Regional Hospital in Upland, California on October 22, 2017 surrounded by his family and many friends.
Dave was born on June 16, 1954 in Glendale, California to James and Rosemarie (Beach) Shewmaker and grew up in the city of Covina. He was the youngest of three.
Dave loved fishing and enjoyed camping in the Sierras, especially Rush Creek. He passed on his love of nature to his children and enjoyed his yearly trip with his sons for the fishing opener and camping trip during the summer with his children and extended family.
His Saturday's were filled with watching Notre Dame football and in spring he lived for baseball, especially the L.A. Dodgers. He enjoyed a good glass of scotch as well as a good cigar every now and then.
Dave was a good, kind and loving man and was like a second dad to many of his kids' friends. He had a big heart. Whenever he was hugged or kissed, just like his father, he would say, "That's the best thing that happened to ma all day".
Dave resided in Rancho Cucamonga and is survived by his loving wife, Gina, of 25 years, his children: Ryan, Jeff, Emilie, Sean, Brett and Vince; Daughter-in-law Sarah and son-in-law Tom; granddaughter: Lennon; Mother Rosemarie; siblings: Helen and Stephen; as well as many nieces and nephews.
His memorial and celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 10am at Water of Life Community Church in Fontana. The family asks that you come celebrate his life dressed in Dodger gear for his love of the team.
