David Battle

David was born August 8, 1945 in Kaulton, Alabama to Annie Lee Battle and Bill Sanders and was the eldest of 12 children. David attended 32nd Avenue Elementary School and Druid Senior High School. After high school, David entered the United States Army, where he was a specialist for 3 years. Upon completing his military service, he moved to California and settled in the city of Compton. David joined Compton Police Department in 1973. During his 10 years there, he began working for Compton Community College Police Department where he later worked his way up to the position of Captain. David worked at Compton College for 30 years. After leaving the City of Compton Police, David worked part time for Compton Unified School District Police, maintaining 2, and sometimes 3 jobs, to support his family. He maintained this career for 30 years until retiring in 2005. David accepted Christ at an early age, attending New Home Church of God and Christ. When he couldn't attend church, he would always tune it to watch Frederick K. C. Price, his favorite televised preacher. He would also share the word with his mother by telephone. David really enjoyed playing sports and hunting. Baseball was his favorite sport to play. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing sports as well and never wanted to miss a single game. David is preceded in death by his mother Annie Lee Tinker; father Bill Sanders; brothers Johnny, Joe, and Pizzaro Sanders; sisters Rosie Lee and Annie Lee Sanders-Thomas; nephews Demetrius Underwood and Benn Battle; and niece Lisa Tinker. He leaves to cherish his memories, devoted and loving wife of 50 years, Schilicia (Ms. Ann); two sons David Anthony (Kenya) Battle of Moreno Valley, CA and DeMetric Deshaun Battle of Highland, CA; his grandchildren Leilani K. Battle, Keoni D. Battle, Makani F. Battle, Patricia Battle, and King Battle; his 5 sisters, Diane Underwood of Syracuse, NY., Levon Battle (Jerome), Annette Tinker, Dorothy Jean Tinker, and Sandra Faye Herron; 5 brothers, Roosevelt Tinker, Melvin Tinker (Sarah), Ricky Tinker, Clyde Tinker, and Orange Tinker, all of Tuscaloosa Alabama, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, friends and many loving relatives.
