Daniel J. Cumberworth, 62, died Sunday, May 7, 2023 in Sun Valley, California.

Dan was born July 10, 1960 in LaSalle, Illinois to James and Aline Cumberworth. He grew up in Moline, Illinois. He attended Moline High School where he excelled in football and track, breaking records in shot put and discus. He was offered scholarships by several schools and accepted a football scholarship to William Penn University in Iowa.

He served in the Marine Corps from 1979 to 1981 as a member of the Recon elite unit. He worked various jobs throughout his life including as an over-the-road trucker. He relocated to California in 1996.

Dan was very intelligent and charismatic, a combination that allowed him to make friends, no matter where. He loved sports and was a walking encyclopedia of facts going way back about football, basketball and baseball. He loved to read and enjoyed and appreciated nature. Dan loved his family.

Survivors include his siblings; Bridget (the late Frank) Abbott, Colleen (the late Harlan) Morgan, Margaret Cumberworth-Bucher, Kathy (Kerry) Sommers, Theresa (Charles) Knipp, Mary Elizabeth (Steven) Hollars, Timothy (Bobbie), Terence (Bobbie), Robert (Claire), and Matthew (Becky). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Michael and James. At the time of his death, Dan was survived by his sister Patricia but she died on May 23, 2023.

A private memorial service to celebrate Dan's life will be held in the Quad Cities in late June. He was cremated in accordance with his wishes. He will be interred at a later date at the Sarasota National Cemetery in Florida beside his late brother-in-law, Harlan Morgan.
