In the early morning of Friday, September 3, 2021, Abbas Bozorgzad passed away peacefully in his home with his wife Sousan by his side. At age 70, he lived a life that was full of love, kindness, and laughter. Abbas was born January 10, 1951 in Esfahan, Iran to Mohamad and Alam Bozorgzad. He and Sousan met at the Academy of Foreign Languages in Esfahan and were married three years later in July of 1975. They welcomed their son Alisha in 1976 and their daughter Anahita in 1979. In 1979, the family moved to Tennessee and Abbas studied accounting at the University of Tennessee. They later moved to Southern California to be closer to Abbas' lifelong best friend, Ardavan Sadri. Abbas obtained his bachelor's in Accounting and a master's in Student Counseling from Cal State Los Angeles. He worked much of his career as a financial aid advisor at the university there before retiring to spend more time with family. Abbas was very family-focused and loved being a father and grandfather. He cherished time with his grandchildren: Ethan, Vale, Nila, and Cyra. He held a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and shared this with his family by holding traditions of visiting places like Yosemite National Park.
Abbas' character was that of genuine kindness, generosity, and joy. Always outgoing and charismatic, Abbas seemed to get along with every person he met. Anyone who met Abbas was sure to leave with a smile on their face and a sense of value in their heart. He showed a strong compassion for animals, and lovingly cared for many pets during his life. He held a passion for cinema and the arts, and would express his creativity through his art and sense of style. Those close to him could feel how much he loved them because of his patience, self-sacrifice, and constant affirmations. Abbas was one to always check in on others, listen without judgement, and offer help without hesitation. He loved to brighten someone's day with jokes and silliness. Abbas' love of laughter persisted and he was still able to make others laugh even when he could no longer speak. He continued to smile and laugh with loved ones in his final days.
Abbas is survived by his wife Sousan Seyedakhlaghi; son Alisha (and Gena) Bozorgzad and their children Vale and Nila; daughter Anahita (and Edgar) Bozorgad and their daughter Cyra; grandson Ethan (and Kiryn) Bozorgzad; sister Zahra (and Magid) Tabatabai and their sons Afshin and Kourosh; as well as many loving relatives and friends.
Although Abbas' body is gone, his soul will never leave us. We will think of him every day as we watch for his humor in hard times, hear his kindness in our ears, and feel his love in our hearts.
